Wearing Your Cufflinks in Perfect Style
by Leah Pisay
Men nowadays are catching up with women when it comes to their jewelry. In earlier days, men were limited to a watch and a ring as their main accessories. They used to be so simple keeping themselves to the basics when dressing up. A watch and a ring would do to accessorize their outfits. At times, a flashy necklace could even look awkward on them.
It's now a different case when it comes to men's fashion. They have greatly evolved in their fashion sense, not limiting themselves to the traditional and usual styles. As most manufacturers and retailers would say, men are now buying jewelry. Jewelry, which was once thought of as exclusively for women, is now becoming a necessity for men. Of these items, the simplest is the cufflink, which is slowly climbing the ladder of popularity in men's choice of accessories. It is but a very simple article, yet it says a thousand words about the one wearing them.
But how does one use a cufflink? First choose a cufflink. The basic cufflink is usually made up of a little circle that is connected by a metal that leads to a larger decorated oval. Some have hinged backs but they give the same benefit, so you can wear either one. Put on a dress shirt with French or double cuffs. This is the type with extra long cuffs with no buttons and with holes on each side. Then fold the cuffs back, making sure that they form a neat and even line at the end of the sleeves. Then hold the two open edges of the shirt cuff together. The two sides should lay flat away from the wrist. Make sure that the holes of the cufflink line up then insert the cufflinks. You are now ready to go as you have just managed to dress up on your own using your cufflinks!
When wearing them, be sure that your outfit and the occasion matches your accessory. On formal occasions, be sure to choose the right cufflinks, not too flashy or too casual. The decorative area should be looking out towards the sides of you. If this is not the case, then you are not wearing them right (i.e. you have them on backwards!).
Lots of designs for cufflinks have now become available. From the simplest types like those of engraved initials, important dates and other symbols to the most unique like tennis rackets for the tennis enthusiasts and the flag of the United States for the patriots. But then there are people who really want to have their own design of cufflinks. This is why Custom Cufflinks are now becoming extremely popular. This type of custom made pieces definitely bring out the personality and the individuality of the wearer.
Custom cufflinks would best serve, for example, a wedding that has its own theme. As cufflinks are the best choice for groomsmen gifts, they can be easily designed to coincide with the wedding's theme. Now isn't that a great way to remember your life's most cherished occasion?
