How to Match a Regimental Striped Necktie

Many people believe that it's tough to properly match a regimental striped neck tie due to their unique patterns. People take one good look at the thick diagonal colored stripes and immediately begin assessing just how much of their wardrobe will not match that tie.
It's true, there are some very strict rules for how to match a regimental striped neck tie ; however once you understand these rules you'll see that it's actually very easy to find a coordinating outfit for this type of tie due to the fact that only a few clothing options are available that will work well.
From Rules Comes SimplicityThe real joy of coordinating a regimental striped neck tie is the fact that it doesn't coordinate with most things; therefore there is actually little thought that has to go into creating an outfit around a regimental striped tie.
For starters if you enjoy suit s, you'll be pained to hear that suits are out of the question with regimental tie s. A suit is far too formal for the somewhat whimsical appearance of the regimental tie. Of course they can be worn together, but it will not look good. Instead turn to blazers for your jacket of choice.
Coordinating a blazer to match your tie should be easy as regimental ties are usually only composed of a few very strong bands of color. Therefore if there is blue in your tie you will probably want to choose a navy blue blazer; if your tie is predominantly light-colored perhaps a khaki colored blazer would work well. In any event, you don't want to overly coordinate and appear to be made out of a solid color; instead, coordinate colors rather than play the matching game.
When it comes to shirts, white shirts are best and if you must have stripes choose very thin stripes. It's that simple.
Everything Flows from the JacketOnce you have chosen your jacket, the rest of your outfit should require almost no thought on your part. Simply coordinate everything else you are wearing to the jacket. Khakis almost always look best with sportcoats however if you happen to have a sharp sportcoat that would look good with black dress pants by all means try them on and see how it looks together. Chances are you'll be fine; however pay special attention to how the black pants look with your tie. There is a small chance that the pants may appear to be overly formal and in this case khakis are always a good standby.
